The Blazing Owl was founded by nature-inspired artist and candlemaker, Angie Arndt.

Meet Angie:
The Chandler Behind the Flame

Angie’s story begins with molten wax and a handful of curiosity.

In 2003, on Sanibel Island, Florida, she apprenticed in the traditional Cut and Curl candle-carving method—a technique that’s been passed down for over a century through Germany and Holland. Working within minutes before the wax cooled, she learned the dance of color, heat, and timing where every candle is a fleeting performance of form.

For more than a decade, Angie carved candles live for audiences in shops across the country. Each piece became both sculpture and story: a moment captured in wax, layered in color, and shaped before watching eyes. Her work transformed simple candle-making into something theatrical…equal parts craft, expression, and connection.

Beyond the studio, Angie’s creative path has taken many forms: puppeteering for classrooms and web series, performing improv comedy, teaching candle-carving workshops, and guiding tours in Sedona. Every chapter has informed this work, deepened her love for storytelling and for bringing people together through art and laughter.

Now rooted in Jerome, Angie continues her lifelong craft among a thriving community of artists and makers. As a member of the town’s Chamber of Commerce, she helps champion small businesses and preserve the creative spirit that makes this mountainside town one of a kind.

Today, at The Blazing Owl, she invites you to witness the process once more! Candles carved by hand and desert sun, illuminated by the same love that first lit the flame.

“Each candle begins as a simple column of wax. The magic happens when you warm your hands, listen to the flame, and let it tell you what it wants to become.”
